Solid’Africa: Advancing nutrition security and economic resilience in Rwanda

Solid’Africa is unlocking new opportunities in Rwanda’s agricultural sector by supporting 4,500 vulnerable smallholder farmers—close to 60% of them women—to adopt sustainable farming techniques that improve soil health and increase crop yields. Their Sustainable Agriculture for Economic Empowerment initiative is designed to boost farm productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and elevate household incomes.

In a country where 70% of the population depends on agriculture, these smallholder farmers are the backbone of the economy. Solid’Africa, known for delivering more than 100,000 nutritious meals annually to low-income in-patients across Kigali’s public hospitals, is expanding its impact through this initiative.

Through targeted training, access to quality farming inputs, and guaranteed market access via Solid’Africa’s meal programs, the program fosters food security and economic resilience for communities. Partnering with local cooperatives, universities, and government agencies, Solid’Africa is creating a sustainable circular economy that empowers farmers and improves patient care, contributing to a more prosperous future for Rwanda.
